Title: [W.I.P] Common SD Pack

Ok so everyone (4 people) agreed on this we need a common SD Pack
Nothing fancy of course AI's Barney, sci, Romka's SD hgrunt, fassn etc.
Regarding the weapons regular HD weapons on AI's arm, except maybe the 9mmAR that will use Romka's M16
Sooo who can help ?

Since now, I started to release individual models, editing them according to HL's original concept, but at the same time, keeping a "new" look to them.

Yesterday I released the barney model, nothing much to say, it's just an edited version of liquidator & werewolf's barney.

You can spot some errors, to be honest, it was a 30-min hackjob.

If you want I can join in, but i'm in the last year of high school, so I'll have some bussy days :P

I would sure love having you to work on that
But I would prefer a more classic look and feel, but it would be a shame to not use nice new face models/textures for pretty much anything
Maybe we can make two packs then ? A simple one with regular SD models and a more complex one with a custom dll that allow more variety to the NPCs, won't that be a problem with VAC servers through ?

Yeah, I want to make them more classic, but as I said before, my releases (well now it's just one ._.) are just for keep updated my facebook page.

Well, I like more the complex one, so we are killing two birds with one rock :v , I love the idea of making a custom .dll that randomizes the npc models, sounds fresh :D. (Tbh I don't know NOTHING about c++ or editing Half Life's Code)

I really don't know what causes being banned in a VAC server, I think it's cause of an external hack, like that

Honestly more randomization on the NPCs is a ten minutes jobs, check out the mercs and sci in the EoD thread they have a bit of random to them
But I really have to double check that stuff with VAC, it's a change in the hl.dll (server side) it wound't make any sense to hack it for cheating since the rendering (most common cheat from what I understand) is done client side

Okay, and what is the goal of this thread?
We all know where we can get the old A.I and Romka models didn't we?
And what are the limits? Polycount, Pixels,...
Chrome overlays? Yes, or not? (I'm not a very big Fan of it.)
There are so many questions, so we better should put up a FAQ first, I think. :)

Ah yes, the whole point is to bring everything all together into one big pack
Mostly models and sounds, except if you all want to go for textures too
No real limit or anything, but classic really the idea is to offer a SD pack for people who don't uses one, ence avoiding every mod leader to repack common models, like the vortigaunt

But if you ever did take a look at it you maybe have noticed the new base.mdl in it!

I can post different versions, of skins. There are alot of versions around.
I only post the skins, to save space. The textures/skins can be changed by using Jed's HLMV!

Well, I'll start first with the scientist, we are facing valve's style? I mean, pale scientists with white labcoats and trousers. Or the gearbox one? Normal skin tone with light-brown trousers? And the same question goes to the weaponry :P

Btw I saw in the mod "Zombie Edition" that the heads of the scientist.mdl are kinda based on the classic one.

One classic (LD) style and one gearbox (HD/PS2/DC) style. :)

I just made out the Islave.

AI's Islave with some body texture found in Gamebanana, also I hacked on, an additive layer for the eye (I think it's just unnecesary)

I'll try also the headcrab and the zombie.

And yeah, but I need some guides (I mean, how do you guys want the models to be)

EDIT:

I made out the scientists.

A.I's Scientists with some enhanced textures, I made the textures to make them look like Gearbox's Scientist (but if you guys want I can switch back to A.I's colours)

I used Photo Zoom Pro to enhance all the .bmps (Pretty cool tool if you want to improve those 256x256 textures) The only thing that I don't like are how the face textures are grainy, but god, you have to check out how those eyes look now :O

Well Sven Coop anims for the hgrunt for a start, they aren't "classic" but somehow they look better Romka's, you have made a lot of SD hack with newer bodies, if they aren't from MW2 or something like that I would love to have a look at them. Same thing for Barney and the sci if you have something new to show, I would like to take a look at them (post the models of course)

Hmm yeah, I'll try to mix up both textures (A.I's and WP's)

@LeonelC, scientists look good, if you are looking to go the extra mile I'd make the ID's more unique, all are the same minus the picture, would make them kick ass to have unique birthday's blood types and such. Totally a minor detail but when dealing with work like this, it's all in the details.

Really excited to see all the hard work you guys are putting in!

Yeah, I just forgot to enhance the ID's too! I'll do it later :D

I ended up with this:
(used the DC scientist coat instead of A.I's PS2 coat)

@LeonelC: The Scientists are nice, only the hand texture, is way to unsharp for this high resolution texture.

A long time ago I updated A.I's Barney model with a better p + w beretta model,
with a 128x128 texture (instead of 64x63), added a 256x256 hand texture
(instead of 128x128), repainted the holster texture, and now I edited the ID
patch texture (removed the red line under the Black Mesa text logo) to make
it look exactly like the Scientists ID patch texture. :)

Edit: Okay, here are some new textures for the scientist, now with the PS2 coat.

So after asking on the VAC forum apparently there is not risk into modifying hl.dll, vac doesn't scan servers files so we are good to go for more gameplay modifications
Soooo couples of suggestion, as said before more diversity into the NPCs
Besli put all those skins for the agrunt into a single model, I'll put a randomizer for picking up a skin, do that with as many as alien npc as you can, if you have submodels that's good too

I don't know if that is a very good idea! Because the Alien Grunt has a lot of submodels, and I don't really know if this is possible, but you need to do a skingroup for every seperate part of it...
If it is possible we could also give the hands all the skins we (or I) have, and that will explode the filesize to a very big size!

Mine won't be a 1:1 copy of Valve's original one, but something more grounded in reality. Still, I'll be aiming to keep it very much recognizable as the fassn.

That's because it's the Barney model on the scientists animation. :)

What this project really needs is a animator that is willing to enhance (redo) some LD animations with the PS2 (SD) skeleton!

The jumpsuit model with a pilot helmet would give a nice pilot model.
For They Hunger, or for the Osprey, or the Apache,...

I have no clue who! :sigh:

I used to have a friend doing that kind of stuff for me at one point, but he's been having some problems lately it seems.

With the armour you'd have to do it with "body" too, but that won't cut it with the new hitboxes needed to cover the armoured chest.

No I meant that it's going to be both a pack and mod, this way we could have diversity in the models without any risk regarding VAC, since testing that could take months

Btw, it might be possible to do it without dlls if you're worried about VAC (of course it won't ban you, especially seeing as it's a sever side change) by turning off SmartEdit on the entity properties and adding a "body" keyvalue to the entities you want to have different armour with. It won't be random though and I'm not sure vanilla HL will recognise that property without code support.

So it's either redoing the the maps or taking a risk with VAC, I trust you on this one James but the nerds on the VAC forums think othervise, but they are extremly nerdy and probably don't know jackshit, arg back to testing I guess

So it's either redoing the the maps or taking a risk with VAC, I trust you on this one James but the nerds on the VAC forums think othervise, but they are extremly nerdy and probably don't know jackshit, arg back to testing I guess

I have a account with just half life on it, I was originally going to move it to my F2p account but I no longer have the box/ cd key for it

Here is Wonrz's hipoly and hires gargantua model, with edited (plastic wrap) skin.

Edit: I will post A.I's Gargantua Model (with reskins), and Wonrz's hires edit (+reskins).
Models are the same, but Wonrz cut the UV of A.I's model in pieces.

Whoa. I love them. Still retains the HL feel to them.

And it reminds me of what I attempted back in 2007 when I learned HL: People's edition was canceled. I was such an amateur modeler back then

It should work if you set it up in a new mod directory. Or is it modifying other DLLs?

Sure. Rar file should be embedded. Go crazy.

I'll do the Hgrunts next. Should I combine them with Gearbox and give them different torsos, and weapons?

Or should I just add only more heads/faces and skin groups?

Okay here is a nearly complete v weapon pack:

I put in two versions of the satchel, with skinned chrome
parts, and a satchel radio with a skinned button.
The only model that is missing in this pack is the crossbow.
Because I decided to redo the crossbow, based on Red's one.
