First Ever Reskin - Some Shotgun Shell Model

I was just messing around in Photoshop earlier, and I started to make this piece of crap. Is this decent for a first skin? The black line near the bottom there looks big, but it is really only 1 pixel in width; the original of this creator of this model stretched out the UVs for some reason. I haven't started working on the top and bottom of the shell yet.

Is there anything I need to improve on? Scratches, metal, etc.?

By the way, does anyone know of a better way of getting UVs off of a model other than using the "Export UV Map" option in Jed's Half Life Model Viewer?

I think the palette of the texture is kinda all wrong, the white reflection on the gold part is kinda pink, other than that it looks pretty nice to me
