Pet/Animal Companion Thread
« on: March 24, 2011, 11:07:50 PM »
Given the recent influx of questionable threads, how about some love? Post your dogs, cats, ferrets, snakes, birds, any animal you see outside.

I'm at University so I'm away from my bird friends.

I always thought birds seemed like cool animals to have, but how do they really fare living in cages? I know Crows are super duper intelligent and can be taught things, would it be possible to have a little crow like a dog or something, like youc an let it out to fly around and since it thinks you own it comes back?

Gonna post a picture of our cat later I think.

I know that people keep jackdaws as pets, those are like small crows (and less ugly to look at).  I don't know much about them, but from what I've read in newspapers people let them fly free - and call them down when they want the bird to go back inside.

I don't keep pets.  I used to but the novelty wore off pretty quickly, that and I'm alergic to them :X

They don't mind too much.  When I'm home, I try to take them out everyday for at least 20-25 minuits, I don't want them to be fat nerds :[

Parakeets are pretty tame to human contact so I am able to put them on my hand and shoulder without much protest. My sister and I have only gone so far as to feed them some seeds and spinach by hand - apart from that, they are somewhat afraid. The only reason they can be handled so well at the moment is their age, they are only around ~7-8 months old. If they were older, they'd be much more adamant in their behavior and resort to biting your hand when attempting to elicit them out of the cage door. Hopefully, after a short session of outside time everyday, the birds will be accustomed to their routine and enjoy being gay out of the cage.

I should totally get a falcon some day! I'd have to live in a really empty place though, I mean, I don't want it coming back with the neighbor's dog or cat... Speaking of that, our cat doesn't get along with the magpies living nearby, sweden is like magpie turf everywhere, and we have a huge nest (more than a meter's diameter) in a tree right outside our garden. I'm gonna teach ehr to kill those as well as she's really good at killing smaller birds and all various kinds of rodents.

Gyrfalcon's are pretty good for falconers. Needs alot of equipment though; leather arm covering to prevent the talons from ripping your skin, a head covering for the bird to make the bird not peck you/only use their sense of smell.

What's your camera?
It's a Fujifilm FinePix S5800. It's not meant to be an arty-fartsy camera (Which I'm using it for) and it's uncommon to get good shots like that with it (Or perhaps that's just my subject ^_^). I don't have any lenses for it except this Massa MC-UV 46MM that I think came with it.

Here's the settings that I used to shoot those images on:
Photometry - Average
White balance - Auto
High Speed Shooting - Off
Focusing - Continuous AF
AF Mode - Center
Sharpness - Hard (I've set it to standard now after looking at the images on a clear screen)
Flash - +0
Bracketing +1/3 EV

Thing is I got no idea what the majority of these do, I just set them up to the way that it looks best, trial and error. I should probably start to get into this kinda stuff. :(

We have four animals in the house (three cats and a dog), but only two of them are really 'mine.'

Frog, up top, managed to snag his (already bad and held together with steel rods) leg on something when jumping out of a closet a few hours after I took that earlier today and snapped it in two, am emo.

Yeah, not only did he snap his lower leg in two, but he re-shattered his upper leg. We didn't notice it until the x-rays came back on account of the steel rods in said leg. He's currently on kitty-vicodin and going to get it amputated tomorrow. :(

How about you just kill the fucking kitten and replace it with a new one.

Or we could just amputate the leg and keep the bitchin' and ultra-affectionate cat for less than the cost of putting him down. :words:

Catnappers.

our neighbor a few houses away has a cat that looks almost the same as ours, but theirs is a bit more boring. It's kind of cool though they have one all white and one all black kitten.

The cat actually lives across the street and got access through the roofs. Just walked into the living room one day when I was watching tv.

Our cat used to go hang out with the neighbor's cat, our cat's not castrated but the other one, Alfons, is. So naturally he was pretty afraid of our cat most of the time, and this ended up with our cat Freja walking over there and stealing all his toy mice and food until we got her to stop doing it.
Alfons' owner is horrible, it's a woman the reminds me so much of Dolores Umbridge it's almost as if she took lifestyle advice from her.
