[HL1][MP5, and possibly SPAS 12] UVmap needed for these models!
« on: December 10, 2010, 02:08:02 AM »
I've already had many people try to UV these suckers, but have failed. Every. single. time.

At the moment, I can only provide one screenshot, because it's the only one I have at the moment seeming as how my PC that has all the content on it is fried.

Once I get it back, I promise I'll get some more screenshots.

Hi there Joebama, welcome to HLC! Your MP5 doesn't seem to have proper smoothing groups, do you plan to fix that before providing a UVrel file?

Hah, thanks.

Actually, for some reason, MS3D randomly does this. It's not actually smoothed out like it shows in this pic. Sometimes when I open MS3D and import this into it, it'll do this and sometimes it'll be fine.

Groups tab, untick "Auto Smooth".

Hmm, ok I will check it out when I get the computer back.

EDIT: Urbanebula being  :2pro: sent me the MP5 back seeming as how he did the grenade launcher hack.

Although, all I have at the moment is the w_ model with a shitty half-assed UVmap. Ignore the textures in the folder with the mp5 source files. They are all suck.

Looks pretty nice properly smoothed. Autosmooth basically rapes anything that's not organic. And sometimes rapes those too.

No it does it's job, recalculating normals from smoothing groups

Something you don't want it to do if you've already properly assigned smoothing groups.

It won't change shit if you have your smoothing group assigned, everyving will be screwed if you don't have smoothing groups and still somenormals left from the decompilation

I don't think that's true Simon. I just exported a test chamfered box out of 3DS Max and brought it into Milkshape with auto-smooth on. The instant I moved it, it put it all on one shitty smoothing group.

You sure you had your smoothing group setted in milkshape when you imported ? Sound like a bad import/export function, don't get me wrong I'm not saying milkshape isn't full of annoying problems, but the auto smooth isn't one of them (at least I never had a problem with it).

I guess autosmooth can be a pretty cool thing, except for when importing objects from different programs (which is often the case).

Guys, I should point out that MS3D doesn't screw up smoothing if you use OBJ format.

3DS doesn't import smoothing (at all), SMD is the one which goes lol as described.

Yeah, but. In what situations do you import OBJ files?

I had to when my friend at school used Maya and could only export OBJ's since we were nerds and didn't know anything. That was somewhat situational though.

Forgot all about this. Took a quick look at it, but there are holes in the model (mostly the grenade launcher) and floating faces (in front of the mag?), plus I'm not patient enough to resmooth everything.

Clean up the mesh a bit and fix the smoothing and I'll uv it.
